DAYTONA BEACH, FL – A South Daytona man was sentenced to 25 years in prison for a fatal DUI accident that took place on Christmas Eve 2009.

Christopher Thomas Price, 37, who also was involved in a 1995 crash that killed a 19-year-old man in Marion County, pleaded no contest to the latest charges last month.

He was sentenced to 25 years in prison after killing Renee and Brett Gerken, of Spruce Creek Fly-In, when his pickup crashed into their vehicle.

According to reports, the couple had been on their way home when Prince, who was heading east, crossed the center lane, into the Gerkens’ path.

Brett Gerken, 56 tried to avoid the truck but was unsuccessful. He died instantly in the crash while his wife, 49, died later at Halifax Health Medical Center. Brett Gerken was a builder who designed actor John Travolta’s former home in the Fly-In.

Police determined Price was driving under the influence of Xanax, marijuana and oxycodone at the time of the accident.

Price was charged with DUI with serious bodily injury for the fatal 1995 crash. He pleaded no contest at the time and was placed on probation for three years.
