Maine Woman Arrested for DUI with Small Child in Vehicle

ST. GEORGE, Maine – A Waldo County woman is being charged with driving under the influence (DUI) after hitting two utility poles with a seven year old child in the vehicle.
Kristen Staples, 27, was driving along route 131 in St. George when she hit a utility pole head on, kept driving, and then hit the second one about five miles down.
Staples and the child were transported to an area hospital where they were treated for minor injuries.
Staples is facing several charges, including driving while under the influence of drugs, endangering the life of a child, and leaving the scene of an accident.
Staples was arrested and was booked into Knox County Jail.

Vermont Soccer Coach Arrested for Driving Drunk

VERMONT – A Vermont youth soccer coach is facing drunk driving charges after getting pulled over on his way to practice.
Garry Loomis, of Jeffersonville, was pulled over on Friday afternoon after another motorist reported he had been driving erratically and running red lights.
Colchester police stopped the 55-year-old coach, who had his 9-year-old daughter in the vehicle with him.
Loomis told police he was taking his daughter to soccer practice and that he was the coach of her team. He was then charged with driving under the influence and endangering a minor.
At the police station, Loomis allegedly tried to disarm an officer while he was being processed and was charged with disarming a law enforcement officer as well.

Indiana Man Arrested for DUI and Driving with Kids Strapped to Car

FORT WAYNE, Indiana – An Indiana man was arrested after drunk driving three blocks with four children strapped to the hood of his car.
According to Fort Wayne police spokesman John Chambers, a witness called police Monday evening after seeing a man and woman strap the kids onto the hood of their car at a parking lot in front of a liquor store, then driving away.
Chambers explained a U.S. marshal stopped the vehicle and reported that the children, ages 4, 5, 6, and 7, were not injured.
The man, who has yet to be identified, was arrested for driving under the influence and may soon be facing other charges.

Colorado Police Investigate if CSU Student Injury Was Caused by Intoxication

COLORADO – Colorado State Police are investigating an accident which may have resulted from the victim’s level of intoxication.
A Colorado State University student was critically injured following an attempted jump into a pool. The accident took place on Sunday when the victim, sophomore wildlife and conservation biology major Ian Smith, attempted to jump roughly 30 feet from the roof of a building at Ram’s Village into the apartment complex’s pool.
Smith missed the pool and hit the pavement instead.
According to witnesses, many of the pool-goers were drinking but police have yet to confirm if Smith was under the influence at the time of the accident.
Smith is currently being treated at the Medical Center of the Rockies for broken ankles, heels and vertebrae.

Michigan DUI Crackdown Leads to Over 400 Arrests

LANSING, Michigan — Over 400 motorists were arrested for driving under the influence during a three-week crackdown on DUI drivers across Michigan earlier this year.
The total number of arrests were announced by Michigan police today. In addition, 79 motorists were charged under the state’s new and stricter “super drunk” DUI law. The legal limit of intoxication in Michigan is .08 percent blood alcohol level, while the “super drunk” designation is 0.17 percent and above.
