VERMONT – A Vermont youth soccer coach is facing drunk driving charges after getting pulled over on his way to practice.
Garry Loomis, of Jeffersonville, was pulled over on Friday afternoon after another motorist reported he had been driving erratically and running red lights.
Colchester police stopped the 55-year-old coach, who had his 9-year-old daughter in the vehicle with him.
Loomis told police he was taking his daughter to soccer practice and that he was the coach of her team. He was then charged with driving under the influence and endangering a minor.
At the police station, Loomis allegedly tried to disarm an officer while he was being processed and was charged with disarming a law enforcement officer as well.
Driving under the influence, also known as DWI or DUI, is a serious crime, punishable by several penalties, including expensive fines, community service, driver’s license suspension, and worst of all, imprisonment.
